Questions worth settling before we begin
- Which role archetype, in which city, with which professional moat matches this specific child’s actual preparation, instead of the child the family hopes they will become?
- What does the plan look like at 35 when there may be a young family and a life that needs to be sustainable on local incomes?
- Is the second child’s plan being designed independently, or is it being shaped by the first child’s asset structure and the social precedent it has already set?
- Where is the return option? Is it being designed now, or deferred until it becomes harder to execute?
Education fit
Which country, institutions and degrees actually fits this child’s competence and characteristics before any city discussion?
Career runway
What does the career picture look like at 30 years old by employment progress, work permit and industry prospect?
Family continuity
Is the destination still efficient when a spouse needs a job in the same city, when childcare arrives, when a parent’s health changes?
Property
When does property become rational; what type, tenure and ownership model can serve the family?
- Medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, law and architecture are strictly regulated professions. UK GMC, Australian AHPRA, Singapore Medical Council each impose their own exams, supervised clinical practice and extra years
- Hot job rankings today become the oversupplied crowd tomorrow. Real signals come from World Economic Forum Future of Jobs 2025, Jobs and Skills Australia, Malaysia TalentCorp, UK AI projections, Singapore MOM, Thailand BOI.
- UK’s Graduate visa shrinks to 18 months for most non-doctoral graduates from January 2027. Skilled Worker sponsorship demands £41,700 minimum or the occupation rate, whichever bites harder.
- From January 2026 CCS-eligible family in Australia are guaranteed at least 72 hours of subsidized childcare per fortnight. That changes the household economics for a foreign working couple.
- A GBP 700,000 London flat can trigger GBP 25,000-84,000 in stamp duty, and inheritance tax exposure once residency clocks in. Break even may take seven to nine years. A short master’s degree never justifies the arithmetic.

Thailand
- Thailand is growing as a regional university destination for ASEAN students who want an English language environment at significantly lower cost than Singapore, Australia or the UK.
- Chulalongkorn University and Mahidol University regularly rank within the top 600-800 globally. Thai conglomerates, Agoda’s data science platform, BOI-confirmed EV manufacturers, private healthcare as Bumrungrad International provide ASEAN commercial breadth.
- The new APEC Business Travel Card and Thailand’s Smart Visa program for skilled professionals have also improved the post study employment for international graduates who find work with Thai or multinational companies.
Hospitality, consumer brands, healthcare, digital commerce, logistics and selective industrial sectors. Strongest for commercially agile and regionally minded children.
Malaysia
- The most underestimated closer-to-Vietnam city in this set. Malaysia continues to position itself as the most cost effective English language university hub for the region.
- Malaysia hosts branch campuses of Monash, Nottingham, Curtin and Heriot-Watt, offering accredited degrees at 40-60% of the home campus cost.
- The Student Pass system is straightforward. The relaunched MM2H approved 3,172 applications in 2025, provides a long-term residency pathway for families who invest in Malaysia.
Medical qualifications from Universiti Sains Malaysia, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia and Universiti Malaya are recognized for purposes of applying to Singapore Medical Council.
Singapore
- Singapore has reinforced its position as Southeast Asia’s premier university hub. Policy changes in 2025-2026 focus on tightening the employment pass threshold, and expanding the Personalized Employment Pass for high earners.
- Foreign students need a job offer before the Student Pass expires. Families should factor the intensive campus recruiting cycle into their planning from Year 1.
- CCR rents are Singapore’s most expensive but compare favorably to London or Sydney for the standard of accommodation delivered.
High quality Asian corporate platform in finance, semiconductors, digital infrastructure, supply chain and family office administration. Outstanding for the child who arrives with direction, discipline and genuine commercial instinct. Expensive in every dimension including the cost of being uncertain in it.
Australia
- Australia is cautiously reopening its international student market after the sharp reductions of 2024-2025. The 2026 commencement cap now rises to 295,000. Universities investing in housing and strong community engagement receive larger allocations, which is good news for families targeting the top tier.
- The 485 visa still works well for skilled degree holders under 35. Most families underestimate the age cap, in which a 32-year-old completing a Master’s must apply before their 35th birthday.
- Sydney CBD rents are pushing at AUD 5,600+ per month. Melbourne offers similar academic quality at meaningfully lower cost.
Broad career depth in healthcare, STEM, resources, professional services, fintech and regulated trades. Also wins in the middle chapters when ordinary suburban life needs to be affordable on a professional salary.
The UK
- London’s depth in finance, law, consulting, artificial intelligence, deep technology and life sciences is not replicated elsewhere in the English speaking world.
- Imperial College London at QS #2, UCL at #9, Cambridge at #6, Oxford at #4 these carry genuine weight in both Vietnamese elite networks and in global hiring.
- Bachelor’s and taught Master’s students cannot bring dependants. London Zone 1 two-bedroom rents run GBP 3,250-4,247 per month. The inheritance tax exposure from the April 2025 residency regime is a family planning matter.
A sensible destination for the right child. Worth every effort when the fit between the child and what the city requires is sustainable.
CAPITAL · LEGACY · FACE · CONTINUITY
The families who come through this well ask the right questions before the social calendar hooks them to a city, before the payment terms commit them to a building, and before the school intake binds them to a country.
The First Meeting before any commitment
Arcadia Consulting Vietnam begins by understanding what the family is actually carrying: the child’s realistic academic profile, the family’s capital position and timeline, the siblings, the parents’ own situation at 60 years old. That first conversation is complimentary. Its value is whether it changes the questions the family is asking.
The Family Plan one document
One plan that holds the full picture: education sequence, career pathway, immigration parameters, property structure, source of funds preparation, compliance exposure and succession logic.
Implementation in the right order
School term commitments, property deposits, visa application windows and tax residency timelines do not wait for each other.
Ongoing Counsel present
We remain present and support to adjust the family decision journey when circumstances change.
